Pure Jute is 100% compostable, biodegradable, and eco-friendly. It is a renewable fiber that grows naturally during the rainy season in warm humid climates. Jute is harvested by hand reducing the dependence on heavy machinery and diesel fuel. After 4 – 6 months of growing the plants are cut and bundled and left to dry in the field for 4 days. Next the stems are soaked in water for 20 days to separated the fibers, this step is called retting. The long strands of extracted fibers are washed and once dry are ready for processing. Jute sequesters carbon and is a carbon negative plant. During it’s growth cycle it absorbs carbon and releases oxygen. Jute fiber breaks down naturally in 12 – 24 months.
